What you are calling the iDrive screen, BMW calls the Control Display. Look in the owner's manual for the section on Control Display. The manual will tell you how to adjust the brightness. I am finding on my 2021 550 with the music from USB that some (not much) music is not displaying artwork, even though the artwork is embedded and visible when I look at it on my computer. Changing it/updating it doesn’t seem to make a difference. A check control message stating the 'SOS inactive' is displayed. The Telematics Control Unit (TCU) is NOT identified when performing a short test using the DISplus or GT1. If the SOS button is pressed the call connects but the radio is not muted. You might try disconnecting the negative battery cable, leave it off for at least an hour and then reconnect it and see where you are.
